Working on the holographic optical tweezers system at CEFOP. The Gerchberg-Saxton algorithm computes the phase mask that the SLM needs to display, and when it works, you can see multiple laser traps forming at the focal plane — each one capable of holding a microscopic particle.

The iterative convergence is mesmerizing. Each iteration gets closer to equalizing the intensity across all trap positions. The weighted version converges faster and distributes power more evenly.

The lab smells like ozone from the laser and the room is always dark. I am learning a lot about Fourier optics and how phase modulation can shape light in ways I never imagined during my electronics courses at UdeC.
